About The Position

ASRC Federal Field Services, a Subsidiary of ASRC Federal Holding Company, is currently seeking a Trades Helper at the Plum Island Animal Disease Research Center, located on Plum Island, NY. Marine transportation is furnished by a Government-provided ferry. This role provides support to operations and maintenance functions at the research facility, working alongside higher-level tradesmen or independently on various maintenance tasks, including electrical, mechanical, or plumbing. Responsibilities also encompass building maintenance and repair, such as painting and simple repairs, assisting in the maintenance of facility equipment, and performing preventive maintenance tasks. The Trades Helper will operate equipment as assigned, conduct building maintenance inspection tours, and organize and deliver tools and supplies to work sites.

Requirements

• HS Diploma of GED
• Operate forklifts, tractors, mowers, light and medium weight trucks.
• General experience in applicable crafts such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry and painting.
• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair & maintenance.

Nice To Haves

• Ability to become an active member of the PIADC Fire Brigade.
• Fire experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to operations and maintenance functions at research facility.
• Work alongside higher-level tradesmen and/or independently on a variety of maintenance tasks; may include maintenance in electrical, mechanical or plumbing.
• Building maintenance and repair such as painting and simple repairs.
• Assist in the performance of repairs and maintenance of facility equipment, motorized and non-motorized equipment and general facility maintenance; duties include, but are not limited to preventive maintenance tasks on mechanical and electrical equipment structures.
• Operate equipment as assigned and directed.
• Perform building maintenance inspection tours.
• Organize, assemble and deliver tools and supplies for maintenance tasks to work site.
