About The Position

Systems Application & Technologies, Inc. (SA-TECH) is seeking to hire a Trades Helper for their Machining Department at the St. Inigoes, MD complex. This role supports engineering, testing, prototyping, repair, and production facilities. The Trades Helper will work under supervision to set up, adjust, and operate machine shop tools and machining centers for precision machining and fabrication. They will also assist skilled maintenance trades by supplying materials and tools, cleaning work areas and equipment, and performing other unskilled tasks as directed by journeymen. The specific duties may vary depending on the trade, ranging from assisting with materials and cleaning to performing specialized machine operations.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of common hand and power tools.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience within a fabrication or machine shop, with basic knowledge in the safe use of hand tools and shop equipment.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
  • Solid organizational and communication skills.
  • Current Maryland Driver’s License required; must be able to be insured through company’s vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.
  • U.S. Citizenship required and you must already have or be able to obtain a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance prior to start date and maintain a Secret clearance throughout employment.
  • All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation.

Nice To Haves

  • Formal trade school, college, or military training school highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, setup, adjust, and operate machine shop tools and machining centers as necessary to perform precision machining and/or fabrication operations.
  • Assists one or more workers in the skilled maintenance trades by performing specific or general duties of lesser skill such as keeping a worker supplied with materials and tools; cleaning working areas, machines, and equipment; assisting journeymen by holding materials or tools; and performing other unskilled tasks as directed by journeymen.
  • The kind of work the helper is permitted to perform varies from trade to trade. In some trades the helper is confined to supplying, lifting, and holding materials and tools, as well as cleaning working areas and in other trades, the worker is permitted to perform specialized machine operations, or parts of a trade that are also performed by others.
