Trades Helper - Grounds
About The Position
The Facilities Management Department’s mission is to support Adelphi University's focus of being a modern, metropolitan University. Our goal is to provide support to students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of the University. This mission is accomplished through the exceptional delivery of facilities services, in a timely and cost effective manner, while providing great customer service. Facilities Management staff members strive to maintain an efficient, safe, clean, attractive, and inviting environment for all stakeholders associated with Adelphi University. Furthermore, we strive to support Adelphi’s mission through the Momentum strategic plan to create a world class academic experience.
Requirements
- Requires being outdoors for extended periods, in all weather conditions.
- Operate and maintain grounds equipment including ride-on-mowers, tractors, backhoes, trimmers, and blowers.
- Experience in the safe use of grounds power equipment.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.
- Requires standing, kneeling, bending, and lifting for extended periods.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- One year experience in commercial grounds maintenance.
Nice To Haves
- Applicant should have a working knowledge of, and ability to maintain and operate, grounds equipment including tractors, backhoes, mowers, trimmers, and blowers.
- Applicant must have good communication skills and be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
Responsibilities
- Lawn care, weeding and applying plant food and seed.
- Tree and shrub trimming.
- Snow removal
- Litter and garbage removal.
