About The Position

As a Municipal Bond Trader for RBC Wealth Management, one of the nation's largest full-service investment firms, you will be responsible for trading (buying and selling) municipal bonds within assigned limits and generating sales commissions and trading revenue. You will be responsible for marketing municipal bonds to the retail branch network by disseminating product and market information, and by following up on the merchandising of available securities. Trader will educate the sales force through electronic and telephonic communication, as well as branch office visits, and provide training to Financial Advisors on the products and sales ideas. Trader will provide fixed income services to Financial Advisors with a focus on prioritizing our clients' best interests. Additionally, this role includes new issue oversight, ensuring Financial Advisors follow regulatory requirements and tickets execute correctly. The ideal candidate is a team player with strong knowledge of our products, genuine sales skills, and the ability to manage both the trading side of the job and the relationship-building side that keeps clients coming back.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Business, Mathematics, or a related field or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience working on a fixed-income trading desk or marketing products and ideas to financial advisors
  • Demonstrated knowledge of fixed income markets, economics, marketing strategies, and other fixed income instruments
  • Series 7, 52, & 63 licenses
  • Excellent marketing and communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Proficient with Bloomberg and other investment software packages
  • Proficiency with Tradeweb and other ECN is a plus
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to perform varied tasks from multiple sources
  • Ability to quickly assess situations, react to market/economic conditions and offer creative solutions and opportunities while meeting critical deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for bidding and purchasing municipal securities for inventory positions, creating sales credit, and trading revenues, and managing associated risk of those positions.
  • Evaluate information related to financial markets and quickly and accurately assess market risk in order to receive the best possible price.
  • Access and manage risk within assigned limits for inventory books.
  • Maintain current departments database and processes.
  • Develop and distribute ideas on current market conditions and communicate them in a creative and timely fashion to the FAs.
  • Proactively create actionable ideas for FAs including portfolio ladders, possible swap opportunities, and new money opportunities.
  • Build relationships with the retail network by maintaining a high level of service.
  • Work closely with various trading desks and traders to obtain market insight, develop trade ideas and cross-product opportunities.
  • Partners with various departments across RBC along with Business Development and Fixed Income Strategies to deliver a cohesive message on opportunities to FAs.
  • Must be a team player willing to provide back-up for other team members and jump in as business needs arise including special projects.
  • Remain aware of changing compliance standards.
  • Maintains proper and accurate records and ensures that all trades comply with regulations and policies.
