About The Position

The Trade Credit & Political Risk Claims Manager plays a critical role in safeguarding the company’s financial stability and reputation by overseeing the end‑to‑end claims process for trade credit and political risk lines of business. This leader ensures fair, timely, and strategic claims resolutions while maintaining strong relationships with insureds, brokers, reinsurers, and internal stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Economics, Law, or related field.
  • 5–10+ years of experience handling Trade Credit and/or Political Risk claims within a P&C insurer, reinsurer, or financial institution.
  • Strong understanding of credit risk, international trade, and political risk dynamics.
  • Proven ability to interpret complex policy language and apply it to real‑world claim scenarios.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree (MBA, JD, or similar) or professional certifications (e.g., AIC, CPCU)
  • Experience working with multinational clients and cross‑border transactions.
  • Familiarity with reinsurance structures and reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the investigation, evaluation, and resolution of complex Trade Credit and Political Risk claims, including insolvency, protracted default, expropriation, currency inconvertibility, contract frustration, and political violence.
  • Provide technical oversight of coverage determinations, assess loss exposures and recommend appropriate claim outcomes in alignment with policy terms and the Company’s best practices handling procedures.
  • Monitor the overall portfolio, timely identifying issues and trends and communicating with internal business partners including actuarial, risk management, finance and legal.
  • Collaborate with the underwriting team on financial and credit analyses of buyers, obligors, and counterparties.
  • Evaluate and monitor geopolitical developments and macroeconomic conditions that may influence claim outcomes.
  • Liaise with the underwriting team to provide insights on emerging risks, loss trends, and portfolio performance.
  • Directly engage with insureds, brokers, legal counsel, and reinsurers throughout the underwriting and claims process.
  • Expand vendor relationships and provide service offerings.
  • Prepare and present claim summaries, recommendations, and settlement rationales to senior leadership.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with external partners.
  • Ensure claims handling practices meet internal quality standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including process optimization, documentation enhancements, and system upgrades.
  • Support audits, reinsurance reporting, and internal reviews.
