About The Position

The Trade Compliance Senior Specialist will be responsible for conducting export jurisdiction and classification reviews and determinations of commodities, software, technical data and related defense services under various regulations. This role supports engineering teams with design for export concepts and provides training on trade compliance. The position requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience, knowledge of ITAR, EAR, EIPA, CGP, DPA, and Customs regulations, strong organizational and communication skills, and keen attention to detail. The specialist must be able to perform duties with minimal supervision, conduct detailed research, and possess proficiency in Microsoft Office. Experience with OCR EASE and the aerospace/defense industry is considered an asset. The role also requires the willingness to take on project ownership and accountability, and the ability to travel as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor in Engineering or other appropriate technical education/experience equivalence.
  • Must possess knowledge of ITAR, EAR, EIPA, CGP, DPA and Customs regulations.
  • Must have good organizational skills, as well as good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Requires keen attention to detail, with the ability to learn and comprehend highly detailed laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in conducting detailed research across engineering disciplines while assessing applicable jurisdiction, classification and legal regulatory requirements.
  • Perform duties with minimum supervision, and participate in cross-functional projects as assigned.
  • Working experience in the aerospace / defense industry.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required.
  • Willingness to take on project ownership and accountability.
  • Must be able to travel as necessary (Up to 10% travel).
  • Minimum five years in technical role exposed to a broad cross section of technologies.
  • Must be eligible for registration with the Controlled Goods Program;
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a government of Canada Reliability status and Secret Level 2/NATO Secret security clearance;
  • Must be eligible to meet the requirements for U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

  • Experience with OCR EASE is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting export jurisdiction and classification reviews and determinations of commodities, software, technical data and related defense services under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), Canada’s Export and Import Permits Act (EIPA) and Controlled Goods Program (CGP) / Defence Production Act (DPA).
  • Supporting with Canadian HS and US Schedule B and HTS classifications.
  • Supporting the export Commodity Jurisdiction (CJ) and Commodity Classification Requests (CCR) request processes as needed.
  • Reviewing supplier and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) classifications and document internal concurrence or re-classification for export and/or import.
  • Supporting engineering teams with development, training, and application of “design for export” concepts.
  • Providing training related to Trade Compliance to the engineering team.
