About The Position

The Traction Power Construction Lead will lead the planning, coordination, and construction management of the traction power substations and associated systems for the Calgary Green Line LRT project. Reporting into the Green Line construction management organization, this role is responsible for ensuring that traction power infrastructure is delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project requirements, regulatory standards, and long-term operational needs. The position provides technical and managerial leadership for the delivery of traction power substations, including high-voltage utility interfaces, AC distribution, DC traction power equipment, grounding and bonding, protection systems, communications interfaces, and integration with SCADA and rail systems. The Traction Power Manager will oversee construction activities, contractor performance, quality, and safety, while managing interfaces with utilities, civil works, systems integration, testing and commissioning, and operations and maintenance stakeholders. Working closely with design teams, construction contractors, safety and systems assurance, and other discipline managers (including OCS, signals, and communications), the Traction Power Construction Lead will resolve field issues, manage technical risks, and support successful testing, commissioning, and handover of traction power substations into revenue service.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in Canada or eligibility for registration in Alberta.
  • Minimum 10–15 years of experience in rail transit or heavy infrastructure projects, with demonstrated experience in traction power substations.
  • Experience supporting testing, commissioning, and energization of traction power facilities.
  • Proven ability to manage contractors, resolve technical issues in the field, and coordinate across multiple disciplines and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Provide construction-phase leadership for traction power substations and associated electrical systems across the Green Line program.
  • Manage contractor performance for traction power scope, including schedule, cost, quality, safety, and technical compliance.
  • Oversee coordination with electrical utilities for high‑voltage supply, protection interfaces, metering, and energization.
  • Coordinate with civil, structural, and architectural disciplines to ensure constructability and proper integration of substation facilities.
  • Review and support resolution of design changes, RFIs, NCRs, and field technical issues affecting traction power systems.
  • Coordinate with testing, commissioning, energization, and handover readiness for traction power substations, ensuring compliance with CSA, IEEE, utility, and AHJ requirements.
  • Coordinate functional interfaces with systems integration, SCADA, communications, and rail systems, while supporting safety, assurance, and project‑level planning and reporting.
