What you’ll be challenged to do: During your internship, you will work on a highly functioning team and aid in providing design services for a wide variety of projects. You'll receive guidance, supervision and mentorship by experienced engineers and professionals with your success as the goal. The majority of our interns convert to full-time employees. In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following: Collaborate on real-world railway and transit projects, assisting in the design and development of traction power systems. Support engineers in understanding project requirements and proposing innovative solutions for the design, performance, and optimization of traction systems. Perform electrical engineering calculations related to traction power system design, including load analysis, power distribution, and energy efficiency assessments. Assist in the design and layout of traction power systems, coordinating with other engineering disciplines (such as civil and mechanical) to ensure system integration. Participate in field surveys and site assessments, contributing to project documentation, including technical drawings, reports, and system specifications.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an ABET-accredited Electrical Engineering program, pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and other engineering design software.
  • Demonstrated interest in transit and railway engineering, particularly in traction power systems, through prior internship or relevant coursework.
  • Proficient in data analysis, with strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to learning and professional development.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, Bentley Rail Track, or similar software tools.
  • Familiarity with traction power systems, including electrical distribution, railway electrification, and energy efficiency concepts.
  • Basic knowledge of railway system design, operations, and electrical engineering principles applied to transit and rail systems.

Benefits

  • The salary range for this role is $21.00 - $28.00 per hour. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
