About The Position

The Eglinton Crosstown West Extension will bring the Eglinton Crosstown LRT another 9.2 kilometres farther west, creating a continuous rapid transit line from the east end of Toronto into Mississauga. The Stations, Rail, and Systems (SRS) package encompasses the design, construction, integration, and commissioning of key project components. The Track Construction Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing all track-related construction activities on rail infrastructure projects. This role ensures that track installation, alignment, and related works are executed safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with technical specifications and regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, transportation engineering, or related field.
  • 8–15 years of experience in rail or track construction.
  • Proven experience managing large-scale rail/metro projects.
  • Strong knowledge of track systems (ballasted and slab track).
  • Experience with heavy machinery and track-laying processes.
  • Knowledge of track geometry, alignment, and welding techniques.
  • Familiarity with standards (AREMA, UIC, EN, or local equivalents).
  • Proficiency in scheduling tools (Primavera P6, MS Project).

Nice To Haves

  • Professional engineering certification (preferred).
  • Project management certification (e.g., PMP) is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage detailed construction plans, schedules, and resource allocation for track works.
  • Coordinate track installation activities including ballast, sleepers, rails, welding, and geometry adjustments.
  • Ensure integration with other disciplines (civil, signaling, electrification).
  • Monitor progress and adjust plans to meet deadlines.
  • Oversee day-to-day site operations related to track construction.
  • Supervise contractors and subcontractors performing track work.
  • Ensure proper use of equipment (tamping machines, rail cranes, welding units, etc.).
  • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Ensure all works meet specifications, standards (AREMA, EN, or relevant local standards), and client requirements.
  • Implement and monitor quality control procedures, including track geometry tolerances.
  • Review inspection reports and ensure corrective actions are taken.
  • Promote and enforce strict adherence to safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct risk assessments and method statement reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and sustainability practices.
  • Lead safety briefings and incident investigations.
  • Interface with project stakeholders including engineers, clients, regulatory authorities, and suppliers.
  • Coordinate with logistics teams for material delivery and storage.
  • Participate in progress meetings and provide technical input.
  • Monitor project costs and track-related expenditures.
  • Optimize resources to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Review contractor claims and variations.
  • Maintain accurate site records, progress reports, and as-built documentation.
  • Prepare reports on construction progress, issues, and risks.
  • Ensure proper documentation for commissioning and handover.
