About The Position

The purpose of this entry-level position is to provide maintenance and construction of the track and Right of Way (ROW) for the Track Department. This role involves working outside in all types of weather conditions year round, as assigned. The position requires the ability to work well with others as well as alone, and may be subject to call outside normal shifts. Snow duty may also be required. Compliance with all related safety rules and procedures, and reporting of all hazards, is essential. Attendance and participation in all assigned training, specifically safety and security related, is mandatory. Other duties may be assigned during emergencies.

Requirements

  • Must be able to perform in a 24/7 transportation company with multiple shifts that may include weekend hours
  • Must be able to use basic hand tools, lift, bend, stoop and carry heavy loads
  • Must be able to communicate successfully with a variety of disciplines and levels, both internal and external staff
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent educational credential
  • Requires 1-3 years manual labor experience
  • Must possess valid driver’s license
  • Work involves walking, talking and hearing, climbing, balancing, lifting (up to 60 pounds), bending and driving
  • Ability to perform all duties above
  • Employment contingent upon passing pre-employment drug and alcohol screen
  • Contingent upon receiving a favorable background check
  • Must pass a physical examination

Nice To Haves

  • Construction-related experience preferred
  • Trade and / or vocational training preferred
  • CDL and/or Hoisting License is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Construct, maintain, repair and inspect track and Right of Way
  • Perform other duties as assigned on the MBTA Commuter Rail System
  • Work outside in all types of weather conditions year round, as assigned
  • Ability to work well with others as well as alone as required
  • Subject to call outside normal shift
