About The Position

Responsible for assisting in management of day-to-day activities involving track inspection and track maintenance / repair teams to ensure safe, efficient rail quality for all divisions within Railroad Company. Interact with internal and external customers in support of achieving company goals.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of FRA rules and regulations required.
  • Able to pass Railroad safety test and training.
  • Can safely and efficiently operate power tools.
  • Must have good communication skills and good employee relations.
  • Should be multi-task oriented and possess good analytical skills.
  • Able to perform physical strenuous work
  • Able to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch
  • Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs
  • Requires occasional use of 30 lb claw bar to remove spikes, requiring application of 50 lbs of force
  • Requires occasional use of 10 lb sledge hammer to drive spikes, requiring application of 75 lbs of force
  • Able to walk, climb, and maintain balance on equipment, stairs, ladders, uneven terrain, rails and ballast in a safe manner
  • Able to navigate into confined spaces if necessary
  • Frequent exposure to weather elements; and appropriate PPE required for job site visits.
  • Pre-employment criminal background checks and substance abuse testing, which includes a urine drug test to detect the presence of illegal drugs.

Nice To Haves

  • Railroad experience preferred.
  • Prefer related work experience of at least 2 years involving track inspection, repair, and maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Work in conjunction with the Track Supervisor to install and repair railroad track and complete other projects as needed.
  • Operate machinery in order to adequately inspect the track.
  • Complete all required documentation.
  • Promote a safe work environment.
  • Perform tasks associated with track work including but not limited to: pulling and driving spikes, replacing ties, surfacing track, changing rail, bars, and other track apparatus.
  • 24/7 availability required.
  • Maintenance of teamwork within track inspection and maintenance / repair operations and with company and corporate groups.
  • Achieving timely and expedited service to RJC divisions, often in situations beyond the control of the switching or shortline operation.
