Our precision components support the International Space Station, nearly every major launch vehicle in operation, high-performance spacecraft (including classified missions), as well as next-generation fighter aircraft, bombers, submarines, radar systems, and ground vehicles. The position of Toolmaker will be responsible to work with the use of drawings, models, or verbal instructions to build tooling assemblies, fabrications, and test equipment as directed by shop management. Toolmakers are required to use various types of conventional machine tools, precision measurement tools, and various hand tools to accomplish their task. Daily follow ups on status of all job components running through the shop at all work centers.

Requirements

  • Must understand assembly, bonding, composite materials, riveting, and other processes associated with tool shop jobs.
  • Knowledge of flight hardware, tooling, and ground support equipment.
  • Advanced math skills (Algebra, Trigonometry, GD&T Math)
  • Set up and operate band saws, milling machines, lathes, surface grinders, hoist/crane equipment, etc.
  • Knowledge in use of hand tools (drill motors, grinders, basic measurement Instruments, etc.)
  • Minimum six years’ experience as Toolmaker; including prior experience in Aerospace/Manufacturing setting.
  • Requires the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
  • Ability to work occasionally in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, or rain.
  • This position requires the use of information or access to hardware subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons as defined by ITAR.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or precision machining industries.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and ability to maintain work area cleanliness.
  • Familiarity with in an AS9100 Rev D environment, including traceability, and non-conformance handling.
  • Ability to read complex blueprints with GD&T and understand cycle times to validate schedules and routings is a plus.
  • Able to communicate effectively with non-technical staff and with members of interdisciplinary teams.
  • Flexible and adaptable in regard to learning and understanding new technologies.
  • Strong written, oral, presentation, critical thinking interpersonal communication skills.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate tools and fixtures.
  • Interpret complicated aerospace drawings and specifications.
  • Use various types of fabrication equipment, conventional machine tools, precision measurement tools, and various hand tools.
  • Understand assembly, bonding, riveting, and other processes associated with tool shop jobs.
  • Tracker knowledge-build jig & fixtures using Laser Tracker is a plus.
  • Responsible for the initial review of product nonconformance’s and rework instructions when applicable.
  • Advise customers on options for corrections, translate the customer’s instructions into planning, and monitor/manage the corrections to successful conclusion.
  • Take full ownership of the assigned job once its kicked-off, from start to delivery of a compliant part on-time within the quoted hours.
  • Review and familiarize yourself with the job package – need to know customer Purchase Order requirements inside and out. This includes the following: due date, total hours quoted, specs, quality requirements, Bill of Material, lessons learned if repeat part.
  • Review checklists from estimating and quality.
  • Work with Planner to establish workflow.
  • Check Material and hardware received regularly – physically and within the system.
  • Work with quality on resolving any discrepancies impacting delivery or schedule and report to Supervisor and Program Manager. See the process through helping develop a recovery plan.
