About The Position

The Toolmaker/Dimensional/Finisher is responsible for finishing tools, fixtures, and associated equipment used primarily within robotic/automated assembly lines for the automotive industry. This role is also responsible for final line integration and adjusting tooling to ensure correct part fit-up. Experience in interpreting CMM reports in relation to tooling geometry is considered a necessary asset for performing necessary studies.

Requirements

  • Recognized Certificate of Qualification as a Tool and Die Maker or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in automotive assembly / tooling or assembly systems.
  • Operating knowledge of all equipment and machines in the mechanical department.
  • Ability to read/interpret blueprints, specifications, and tolerances accurately.
  • Must be able to evaluate Inner/Outer panels cosmetically, and the specifications to GD&T.
  • Must be able to document changes required on panels in a clear and understanding fashion.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Strong understanding of welding, hemming and gluing processes.
  • Must have own tools.
  • Ability to work as a team member, and individually.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks within the trade.
  • Must have the ability to travel nationally and internationally, with up-to-date travel documents (Passport).

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of stampings, and hemming preferred.
  • MS Office and ppt computer skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with design, build or modify new and existing tooling and fixtures for automated systems lines.
  • Inspect, layout, debug, and measure equipment and parts (completed tools, hemmers and fixtures) for proper operation.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and test existing tools and fixtures as required.
  • Analyze BIW (Body in White) measurement reports (CMM, etc.).
  • Compose product “re-work” instructions.
  • Confirm results of internal and external changes.
  • Confirm stamping/assembly parts in regards to dimensional accuracy and consistency in the manufacturing process.
  • Analyze root causes of problems through evaluation of measurement data and "hands on" panel/fixture fit techniques.
  • Follow up on quality issues.
  • Develop “countermeasures” to resolve problems.
  • Provide continuous guidance and training to Tool & Die Apprentices as assigned.
  • Communicate necessary information to Program Manager/Assistant Supervisor and co-workers from shift to shift.
  • Perform assigned tasks in a safe manner, and know how to properly lock out all energy sources, including stored energy.
  • Consult your Supervisor/Assistant Supervisor if you are not 100% sure of how to perform tasks in a safe manner.
  • Follow all safety rules, standards and procedures at all times in all areas.
  • Know what types of Personal Protective Equipment are required for the jobs in your area, and always use them properly.
  • Ensure that your work area is kept clean, tidy, and organized at all times to prevent accidents and produce quality products.
  • Report all unusual circumstances, and actively participate in and support Continuous Improvements.
  • Follow all ISO Standard Operating Procedures to ensure world class quality products are supplied to our customers.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
