The Toolmaker Apprentice will work under the direction of engineering, with guidance from the Toolmakers, to perform all operations (from start to finish) to construct, alter and repair tools, dies, fixtures, parts, etc. This first shift position's hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Willingness to pursue requirements leading to a Journeyman Tool and Die maker credential.
  • 1 year of experience, preferably in a metal fabrication and assembly environment. Successful hands-on work in machining, auto repair, machine repair, farm and mechanical work, or the trades considered.
  • Read, understand and interpret technical materials, engineering drawings and industry standards.
  • Experience using measurement tools associated with toolmaking (micrometer, caliper, height gage).
  • High degree of accuracy and strong attention to detail.
  • Work to specified deadlines, working overtime as needed to meet tooling completion dates.
  • Willingness to take direction and feedback.
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbally/written) with staff at all levels of the organization.
  • Genuine desire to learn and grow with the company.
  • Solid mechanical aptitude.
  • Able to stand all workday and perform lifting operations up to 50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferably enrolled in tool and die certificate or apprentice program.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, adjust, operate, and maintain all tool room equipment (mills, lathes, grinders, etc.).
  • Construct, alter, and/or repair tooling, dies, fixtures, gauges, and/or customer supplied parts.
  • Read and correctly interpret blueprints (tolerances and dimensions) for building parts to print.
  • Communicating to the team when changes are required to the print, due to unforeseen situations or need (for internal documentation).
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe workspace.
  • Communicate the progress of projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.
