About The Position

This is a responsible tool room position requiring skills to repair molds, jigs, fixtures, and other tooling equipment involved in plastic injection molds and assembly of plastic products. Under general supervision, the technician is responsible for training personnel in the proper use of equipment, reading blueprints, using measuring instruments and math to build repair parts for broken molds, jigs, and fixtures. They will maintain adequate repair supplies, modify molds, jigs, and fixtures to correct problems, and inspect and verify changes made by outside mold making vendors to ensure work meets standards and specifications. The role involves performing skilled work with close tolerances, maintaining records of all repairs, modifications, and inventory, and performing special projects as directed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in mold or tool repair, including experience with jigs and fixtures.
  • Possesses the ability to gather and analyze information and make decisions from a limited number of choices.
  • A minimum score of 50 on the Wonderlic Select Assessment (Traditional Score of 20 on the Cognitive portion).
  • A minimum score of 80 on the Mechanical Reasoning test.
  • A minimum score of 50 on Space Relations.
  • Must be physically capable of walking for the entire work shift.
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds repeatedly.
  • Repeated bending and lifting during the shift.
  • Must be able to wear steel-toe footwear.
  • Adequate visual acuity to enter/revise molding press programming.
  • Must be able to meet requirements for forklift and crane license.
  • Must be capable of exerting up to 150 foot pounds on torque wrench.
  • Must be able to work around Magnetic Field.
  • Agreement to complete all post-hire required training.

Responsibilities

  • Trains personnel in proper use of equipment.
  • Ability to read blueprints and use measuring instruments and math to build repair parts for broken molds, jigs, and fixtures.
  • Maintains adequate repair supplies such as core and ejector pins, die springs, and other material related to repairs.
  • Modifies molds, jigs, and fixtures to correct problems.
  • Inspects and verifies changes made by outside mold making vendors to assure that work performed meets standards and specifications detailed in purchase and engineering change orders.
  • Performs skilled work involving close tolerances and which is above the competence level of tool cleaner.
  • Maintains records of all repairs, modifications, and inventory performed.
  • Performs special projects and other tasks as directed.
