About The Position

The Tooling Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and modification of stamping tooling and related equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role requires hands-on experience with tooling repair, basic welding and fabrication, and the ability to troubleshoot and correct tooling-related issues on the production floor.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED); technical training, or apprenticeship preferred
  • 2–5 years of experience in tooling, tool & die, stamping, or a related manufacturing environment
  • Basic welding experience required; certification a plus
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with CNC or manual machining
  • Ability to work with and communicate (verbal and written) effectively with vendors and within all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to self-motivate, problem-solve, and work in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide inches and pounds using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to complete written, oral, or diagram instructions.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of roll forming processes and tooling preferred
  • Familiarity with steel, aluminum, and coated materials used in roll forming
  • Experience supporting continuous improvement or lean manufacturing initiatives

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair stamping tooling used in punch press operations
  • Perform basic welding (MIG/TIG/stick as required) to repair tooling and fixtures
  • Troubleshoot tooling issues that impact product quality, dimensional accuracy, or machine performance
  • Assist with tooling changeovers and setup as needed
  • Modify or fabricate tooling components using hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment
  • Work closely with Production, Maintenance, and Engineering to resolve tooling and process issues
  • Perform preventative maintenance on tooling to minimize downtime and extend tool life
  • Read and interpret tooling drawings, blueprints, and specifications
  • Measure and verify tooling dimensions using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges)
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe tooling area
  • Follow all safety policies, procedures, and lockout/tagout requirements
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned, including projects or assignments to support the Plant.
