About The Position

The Tooling Engineer will increase Company profitability by providing well-designed equipment, tools, and fixtures for future programs and current production, and will support the quotation process. This role involves providing input and direction in the sourcing, design, construction, PPAP, and launch of new tools, fixtures, and equipment. The engineer will assist Tool-Room personnel and/or vendors in problem-solving, estimate, schedule, and execute engineering changes for tooling and cost savings, and coordinate these changes with various departments to meet production schedules. The position also requires providing technical support for product development and design, staying informed of the latest technologies in tooling, and implementing beneficial ideas. Establishing new and superior sourcing methods for new tooling to ensure capability and improve cost-effectiveness is also a key responsibility. The engineer will work with production to implement Poka-Yoke methods, establish characteristics and achievable tolerances for SPC with the Quality Engineer, and work in compliance with TS16949 Standards, OHSA legislative requirements, and ISO 14001 environmental guidelines. Responsibilities include conducting annual tool audits, performing other duties as determined by management, and ensuring product or process non-conformance is addressed promptly.

Requirements

Must have 5+ years Engineering experience in manufacturing environment
Must have 5+ years’ experience with assembly operations
Five years previous experience in cold stamping.
Must have extensive knowledge & experience with design, development and implementation of assembly fixtures & assembly tooling
Must possess effective communication skills with all levels of associates
Must be a “hands-on” person on plant floor
Ability to read and interpret documents and statures from jurisdictional agencies and governmental units, procedure manuals, and specification manuals.
Ability to write instructions, plant operating procedures, and routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, regulatory agencies, and employees of the organization.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
Ability to apply basic concepts of physical science.
Ability to apply common sense understanding and create instructions from technical data or statutes furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Interpret and apply regulations and procedures to situations.

Nice To Haves

Hot stamping a plus
Experience as a tool and die maker a plus
Prefer Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience.
Ability to interact with all levels of employees in the organization, customers, suppliers, sub-contractors, engineers, etc.
Negotiation skills.
Excellent knowledge of the assembly department and press department equipment.
Computer skills in the area of spreadsheets, word processing, CAD, CMM, design and data bases.
Good interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

Provide input and direction in the sourcing, design, construction, PPAP and Launch of new tools, fixtures and equipment for future programs and current changes.
Assist Tool-Room personnel and/or vendors in solving problems arising from production processes, tool tryouts and launching of new programs.
Estimate, schedule and execute all engineering changes of tooling, cost savings, etc... Coordinate these changes with Program Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Finance departments to ensure timely try-out and phase in periods to meet production schedule requirements or customer’s delivery dates.
Provide technical support for product development and design.
Use technology on new and current processes and tools to meet or exceed customer specifications.
Stay informed of latest technologies with respect to tooling. Report on and implement those ideas, which will be of benefit to IMD.
Establish new and superior sourcing methods for new tooling, which will insure capability and improve, cost effectiveness of tools for the program (prototype and/or production).
Assist Program Managers to prepare internal quotes for new/existing programs and all engineering changes by issuing, coordinating and proposing tooling and gauge suppliers.
Work with production to implement Poka-Yoke methods.
Work with Quality Engineer and others to establish characteristics and achievable tolerances for SPC.
Work in compliance with TS16949 Standards.
Work in compliance with all legislative requirements of the OHSA and will be accountable for specific Health and Safety responsibilities.
Once aware of a product or process non-conformance, stop further processing and inform area supervisor or manager responsible.
Maintains due diligence in regards to environmental matters, minimize any potentially harmful accidents and work in compliance with ISO 14001. Will follow the environmental guidelines.
Conduct annual tool audits internal/external on all customer owned tooling to ensure it is functioning and is being maintained in accordance with MNH tooling standards.
Perform other duties as determined by the Engineering Manager and/or General Manger (AGM included).
