About The Position

The Tooling Coordinator is responsible for managing and maintaining tooling, including inspection, repair, replacement, and staging of items. This role ensures that all necessary tooling is available at machines for scheduled tasks and that other tooling is properly stored. The coordinator also manages documentation, outgoing tooling, and orders supplies. This position requires a high school diploma or GED and involves working with various types of tooling such as printing plates and cutting dies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Able to read and follow instructions on factory masters.
  • Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.
  • Able to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume, and rate.
  • Able to apply concepts of high school math.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving one or more concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Working knowledge of equipment design and capabilities that can be translated into efficient operation.
  • Working knowledge of product layouts and production specifications.
  • Working knowledge of product quality specifications.
  • Working knowledge of quality standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior work experience in the corrugated industry.
  • 6 months experience in the Press or Finishing Department.
  • May be required to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and recognize tooling that needs to be repaired, replaced, or revised.
  • Verify that all planned items are at the machines during scheduled walk-throughs.
  • Pull, inspect, and return all other tooling to proper locations.
  • Pull a printing plate backlog once a shift, inspecting and staging items that meet requirements.
  • Perform pre/post inspection of cutting dies once a shift.
  • Pull and put away cutting dies as they are returned from the machines.
  • Seek assistance for dies or plates that are too large or heavy to handle alone.
  • Notify the New Item Coordinator of dies or plates requiring modification, repair, or replacement.
  • Notify the Superintendent and Supervisors of the status of tooling (e.g., 'In-House Repair' or 'Outside Repair').
  • Assign print plate and cutting die numbers from the respective log books.
  • Maintain die spreadsheets.
  • Assign locations to all print plates and enter them into HRMS.
  • Attach all supporting documentation and deliver it to the die room.
  • Manage all outgoing tooling.
  • Order tooling and supplies as needed.
  • Assist in scanning print cards and cads in the system, if applicable.
