About The Position

The Tool Room Technician performs duties related to die readiness for the die cast operation, which includes repairing die cast dies, trim dies, and fixtures. The technician is responsible for operating forklifts and/or overhead cranes to transport dies for production and tooling, and must complete correct documentation for end of run. This role requires the ability to respond to and troubleshoot problems on the production floor, service and repair dies and fixtures using precision measuring tools, and operate various machinery. The technician will also maintain core and punch inventory, maintain a clean and orderly work area, learn new tasks, and adapt to frequent job duty changes, including cross-training. Participation in continuous improvement activities and collaboration with coworkers are also key aspects of this position. The role requires working overtime hours as needed and being available for emergency overtime.

Requirements

Knowledge of basic math, reading, and writing.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to read blueprints.
Forklift and Overhead Crane experience required.
Possess good physical stamina and coordination.
Ability to continuously and repetitively walk and stand for prolonged periods of time.
Ability to continuously and repetitively read standardized work instructions, operate machines and tools, and perform quality inspections.
Ability to continuously and repetitively promptly detect and respond to visual and auditory safety instructions, alarms, and signals.
Ability to wear personal protective equipment, for example: safety glasses, gloves, hats, ear plugs, and steel-toed safety shoes.
Ability to bend, twist, push, pull, kneel, crouch, and reach to perform work.
Ability to use hand positioning to grip/grasp parts, devices, measuring tools and other equipment.
Vision: Ability to see clearly at a distance, with peripheral and depth perception.
Ability to frequently and repetitively lift or carry materials weighing up to 35 pounds and periodically care or lift materials weighing up to 50lbs.
Ability to frequently and repetitively use hand positioning to grip/grasp tools or other equipment.
Ability to frequently sit when driving the forklift equipment.
Ability to occasionally sit and/or climb (including ladders and lifts).
Recognizes potential exposure to environmental, mechanical, chemical, electrical, and explosive hazards.

Nice To Haves

High School Diploma preferred.
Apprenticeship and/or two year’s related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Respond to and troubleshoot problems related to die cast and trim dies on the production floor.
Service and repair die cast dies, trim dies and fixtures using precision measuring tools.
Operate various machinery including using drills, grinders, turn threads, mill, lathes, forklifts and overhead cranes.
Perform welding tasks as required.
Maintain core and punch inventory.
Maintain clean and orderly work area consistent with safety and work rules and regulations.
Learn new tasks and adapt to frequent job duty changes which includes cross training as required by business and manpower demands.
Complete daily paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
Work cooperatively with others in a team environment.
Work safely around and/or while operating heaving equipment or manufacturing machinery.
Work overtime hours as required and be available for emergency overtime when the need arises.
Regularly report for work on time with a desire to perform to the best of your abilities.
