About The Position

The Tool Room Machinist is a skilled trades position responsible for building, machining, fitting, maintaining, and repairing the precision stamping dies, tooling, fixtures, and components used to produce parts for our customers in our micro-miniature precision metal stamping facility. Working from blueprints, tooling drawings, and engineering specifications, this role machines tight-tolerance components on manual and CNC equipment and assembles and troubleshoots tooling to ensure it performs reliably in production. The Tool Room Machinist works closely with tool designers, press technicians, and production to keep tooling accurate, available, and running.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; completion of a machinist or tool & die apprenticeship or technical/vocational training preferred.
  • 3+ years of tool room, tool & die, or precision machining experience, preferably building and maintaining stamping dies in a precision manufacturing environment.
  • Strong machining skills on manual and CNC tool room equipment; ability to read and interpret blueprints, tooling drawings, and GD&T; proficiency with precision measuring instruments; knowledge of die construction, materials, heat treat, and grinding/EDM processes.
  • Highly precise, patient, and detail-oriented with excellent hand-eye coordination for tight-tolerance, fine-detail work; dependable and safety-conscious; effective problem solver who works well with tool designers, press technicians, and production; able to stand for extended periods and perform close, fine-detail tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Machines precision tooling components and die details to tight tolerances using manual and CNC equipment such as surface grinders, jig grinders, lathes, mills, EDM, and related tool room machinery.
  • Works from blueprints, tooling drawings, GD&T, and engineering specifications to produce, modify, and fit die components, fixtures, and gauges.
  • Selects appropriate materials, tooling, speeds, and feeds, and uses precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, optical comparators, microscopes) to verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • Assembles, fits, and tries out new stamping dies and tooling, and makes adjustments to achieve correct part dimensions, form, and function.
  • Maintains, repairs, sharpens, and rebuilds existing dies and tooling to keep them in proper running condition and minimize production downtime.
  • Maintains accurate records of tooling work, follows all safety procedures, and keeps a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Performs other duties as directed.
  • Supports apprentice training, tooling inventory, and special tool room projects as assigned.
