About The Position

As a Tool Room Attendant at Atlas Tube at Zekelman Industries in Kansas City, Missouri, this role supports production by performing tooling setup, repair, and maintenance to ensure efficient mill operations. The position works closely with production teams during changeovers and is responsible for keeping tooling ready, accurate, and organized. It is suited to someone with mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a manufacturing environment.

The schedule is a third shift: Monday through Thursday, 5:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., and Friday, 5:30 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. The role requires working flexible hours, including overtime as needed, and performing physical tasks in a manufacturing environment with exposure to dust, noise, and varying temperatures.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• General knowledge of roll forming processes and tooling systems.
• Experience using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and depth gauges.
• Understanding of bearings, tolerances, and mechanical systems.
• Ability to read and write to maintain tooling records and setup documentation.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills.
• Basic computer skills for tracking and reporting.
• Ability to operate hand tools, pneumatic tools, hydraulic equipment, cranes, and forklifts.
• Strong safety orientation and mechanical comprehension.
• Attention to detail and focus on accuracy and quality.
• Team orientation, strong work ethic, and persistence.
• Ability to stand, bend, and perform physical tasks throughout the shift.
• Ability to lift and move materials weighing 50 pounds or more.

Responsibilities

• Inspect roll stands for wear and damaged components to ensure operational readiness.
• Repair or replace worn parts, including shafts, bearings, plates, rolls, and jacks.
• Gauge roll stands to specifications using calibrated tools and equipment.
• Review roll schedules daily and prepare tooling for upcoming production runs.
• Package and coordinate shipment of unrepairable rolls for regrinding.
• Maintain accurate records of tooling refurbishment and inventory.
• Organize and maintain tooling and work areas for cleanliness and efficiency.
• Maintain accurate prints and ensure changes are approved and documented.
• Attend company and safety meetings and follow safety policies and procedures.
• Work cooperatively with production personnel and supervisors.
• Submit detailed, accurate work orders for equipment issues in a timely manner.
• Evaluate tooling wear and coordinate repairs and returns with external vendors.
• Support production during mill changeovers and assist team members as needed.
• Cross-train team members and support cross-functional training initiatives.
