About The Position

Tool Room Associate professionals play a critical role in supporting shipyard production by maintaining, issuing, repairing, and tracking tools, equipment, and inventory required for daily operations. This position works in a fast-paced shipyard environment where organization, accuracy, and attention to detail help keep production running efficiently. Candidates may support tool room operations, storeroom inventory, tool repair, and gas bottle management while ensuring compliance with company safety and quality standards. Assignments are project-based and may continue based on performance and contract demand, with the potential for long-term placement or permanent hire with select clients.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years of inventory, tool room, warehouse, industrial supply, or shipyard experience for experienced-level candidates.
  • Experience using computerized inventory management or tool tracking systems.
  • Ability to identify common hand tools, pneumatic tools, mechanical tools, materials, and industrial supplies.
  • Ability to inspect tools for wear, damage, and serviceability.
  • Knowledge of inventory control, stock replenishment, material handling, and warehouse organization.
  • Ability to safely operate sit-down and stand-up forklifts or obtain required certification.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude to perform tool maintenance and repairs.
  • Ability to read technical manuals, inventory documentation, and work instructions.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic math skills and the ability to accurately complete inventory transactions.
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Must be able to work safely while wearing required PPE.
  • Must be able to obtain base access (DBIDS) as required by the military installation.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a Navy or commercial shipyard environment.
  • Experience using Tool Tracker or similar computerized tool management software.
  • Experience with physical inventory planning and inventory reconciliation.
  • Knowledge of bottled gas storage and handling procedures.
  • Experience training or mentoring junior inventory personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Issue, receive, inspect, and track tools, equipment, materials, and supplies using computerized inventory management systems.
  • Inspect incoming and outgoing tools to verify proper operating condition and identify wear, damage, or maintenance needs before storage or issuance.
  • Maintain organized tool rooms, storerooms, and inventory areas to ensure efficient access to materials and equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on hand tools, pneumatic tools, mechanical tools, hoses, welding leads, and related equipment.
  • Receive, stock, transfer, and replenish inventory while maintaining accurate inventory records.
  • Participate in physical inventory counts and assist with inventory audits and discrepancy resolution.
  • Support calibration programs for tools and equipment as assigned.
  • Requisition replacement tools, consumables, repair parts, and inventory items to maintain proper stock levels.
  • Assist with rebuilding and repairing pneumatic, mechanical, and hand tools based on experience level.
  • Safely issue, store, transport, and maintain bottled gases and propane cylinders while following established handling procedures.
  • Research inventory discrepancies, shelf-life items, and unit-of-measure issues and communicate findings to supervisors.
  • Train and assist junior personnel while promoting safe work practices and quality workmanship.
