Tool Maker/Model Maker
About The Position
The Tool Maker/Model Maker plans the process for one-off prototype part manufacturing, including designing temporary fixtures and work holding. The role programs offline using Mastercam X or later versions to produce CAM programs for multi-axis milling, multi-plane machining, and surface machining. It requires working knowledge of materials, cutting tools, and appropriate speeds and feeds. The employee sets up and proves programs, inspects their work, troubleshoots assembly or testing problems, and organizes manufacturing across multiple part revisions during development. The position also involves setting up and operating CNC and conventional machine tools and grinding equipment in the Model Shop, interpreting engineering drawings and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, identifying and correcting errors or irregularities, and maintaining an audit trail of program and design changes. The employee is expected to work safely, carefully, and diligently.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Five or more years of experience producing components on CNC machine tools.
- CAD/CAM/CNC machining and programming capability.
- Valid driver's license.
- Excellent math skills, including basic mathematics, plane geometry, and trigonometry.
- Working knowledge of materials, cutting tools, and required speeds and feeds.
- Ability to read drawings and interpret geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Working knowledge of drawings to ANSI-Y-14.5 format, up to and including Level III.

- Qualified individual with five or more years of experience preferred.

- Detect and correct errors or irregularities, maintain an audit trail of program and design changes, and recalculate designs as needed.
- Work safely, carefully, and diligently on assigned tasks.
