About The Position

The Tool Maker I performs tool-maker activities independently, with little to no guidance or assistance from a Skill Trades Leader, in a machine tool manufacturing environment. The role requires basic ability to operate a lathe, Bridgeport, and surface grinder, and to read mechanical blueprints, bills of material, and system layouts. Duties include determining assembly processes from mechanical blueprints; laying out and installing floor plates, sealer equipment, camera stations, fences, cable trays, tooling, framing systems, light screens, and gate keys; assembling units; and drilling, tapping, and reaming holes. The Tool Maker uses an optical level, hand saw, drill press, and grinders. Initial on-the-job training covers frame stenciling and tagging, checklist completion, and torque audits. The position is an onsite, three-month temporary assignment in Novi, Michigan. The worker must bring the specified tools to the job; the client may deny a contractor access to a facility if the required tools are not brought, at the contract house’s expense.
