About The Position

The Tool Maker Group Leader (GL) is responsible for learning and performing a variety of assigned manual duties to build, repair, and maintain production tools, dies, and fixtures for the operation of Indium Corporation machinery. Work is primarily directed and performed under close or general supervision.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Minimum 2 years experience at Indium Corporation with close tolerance fabrication of die and fixtures, or equivalent outside experience
  • Demonstrated ability to design custom tooling and fixtures
  • Ability to interpret dimensional drawings
  • Leadership and supervisory skills
  • Experience with machining equipment, including EDM
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Basic organizational skills
  • Basic to advanced math skills
  • Basic organizational skills
  • Provide own source of transportation for any local/day travel, including travel between Indium Corporation facilities

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years of tool and die experience preferred
  • CNC programming skills a plus

Responsibilities

  • Manage department workload to meet delivery schedules
  • Create, read, and interpret complex drawings and diagrams, perform related tasks, and mentor subordinate employees to interpret
  • Identify and troubleshoot key areas of improvement in operating functions and communicate these effectively to management
  • Communicate effectively at a technical level within the department and with production and engineering departments
  • Uphold the standards necessary to maintain our business certifications and to maintain excellent quality standards and practices associated with them
  • Fabricate tooling as specified and scheduled by the Tool Design Manager and issue the same to the tool library
  • Choose, set up, and operate machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, sharpeners, and grinders to produce tooling
  • May estimate labor hours and materials to build as quoted tooling or repairs
  • Lubricate machines and maintain department equipment as necessary to create required tooling
  • Complete all required documentation to track work, record scrap, and maintain the accuracy of completed parts and required inventory
  • Suggest changes in design involving application, economy, and process of manufacture to proper personnel
  • Perform sharpening, CAD functions, and welding operations when necessary
  • Make determinations regarding a variety of support tools such as mics, gauges, lathes, dies, and hand tools
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
