About The Position

The Tool & Die Maker will work closely with the Toolroom Supervisor and the production team to support on-going production requirements at Omex Manufacturing ULC. The position requires the Tool & Die Maker to complete preventative maintenance, adjustments and improvements to a variety of tools, fixtures and jigs with a strong focus on stamping dies, both progressive and transfer. Most preventative maintenance and improvements are completed in a segregated, climate controlled, quiet area away from production.

Requirements

  • An Ontario or Inter-Provincial Tool & Die Maker Certificate (430A)
  • Available for shift work and overtime as required.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and sound decision making.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbal and written.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and team work.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), as required.
  • Work independently and take initiative.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external parties.
  • Work in a professional and cooperative manner.
  • Strong team player, able to interact with all levels within the organization.
  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OSHA).
  • Follow all Omex Manufacturing ULC company policies.

  • Maintain a tidy and organized area.

Responsibilities

  • Stamping die maintenance including, but not limited to sharpening, polishing, welding, replacing broken and worn parts and components.
  • Troubleshoot tooling issues both mechanical and electrical (die protection sensors) to ensure consistent production and part quality.
  • Contribute to and maintain an up-to-date electronic tooling log consisting of troubleshooting notes, corrective actions made, MRO inventory consumed, etc.
  • Read and interpret drawings and specifications of fixtures, tools, dies, and stamping tooling.
  • Provide input for equipment or tooling modifications.
  • Operate cranes to safely move, split and close stamping dies.
  • Operate a variety of machine tools to cut, turn, mill, plane, bore, grind and shape the piece being worked on to specific requirements.
  • Participate in and provide on the job training with other maintenance and tooling team members including apprentices.
  • Other duties as assigned.
