About The Position

The Tool & Die Technician plays a critical role in the manufacturing process by designing, fabricating, and maintaining precision tools, dies, and molds used in production. This position ensures that all tooling meets exact specifications to produce high-quality parts efficiently and consistently. The technician collaborates closely with engineering and production teams to troubleshoot and resolve tooling issues, minimizing downtime and optimizing manufacturing workflows. Attention to detail and a strong understanding of metalworking and machining principles are essential to maintain the integrity and performance of tools. Ultimately, the role supports the overall manufacturing operation by enabling the production of reliable, precise components that meet customer and industry standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited tool and die maker apprenticeship or equivalent technical training.
  • Proven experience in tool and die making or precision machining within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of blueprint reading, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and precision measurement tools.
  • Ability to operate machine tools such as grinders, mills, lathes, and drill presses safely and effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or technical certification in tool and die technology or a related field.
  • Experience with CNC programming and operation.
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software for tooling design and modification.
  • Knowledge of metallurgy and heat treatment processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead small teams or projects related to tooling fabrication and maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and repair tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures according to engineering specifications.
  • Perform precision machining operations such as grinding, milling, and drilling to fabricate tooling components.
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of tools and dies to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Collaborate with production and engineering teams to identify and resolve tooling-related issues promptly.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of tooling specifications, maintenance records, and modifications.
  • Utilize measuring instruments to verify dimensions and tolerances of tools and finished parts.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance tooling efficiency and reduce manufacturing defects.
