About The Position

This full-time position is project-based and is not expected to continue beyond December 2027, due to the planned relocation of the plant. Eligible new hires in good standing who successfully complete required training and demonstrate proficiency may qualify for incentive bonuses, contingent upon active employment at the time of position elimination. The Tool/Die Maker sets up and operates and programs conventional, special purpose, NC machines, CNC machining centers, CNC grinders, CNC lathe, Tykem laser, and wire EDM, working to close tolerance to fabricate, overhaul, rebuild or repair replacement parts, fixtures or devices. They also dismantle and rebuild machines or equipment to proper working order.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ experience as a machinist.
  • Must be able to correctly read and interpret instruments and gages.
  • Demonstrated ability to work to close tolerances (+/- .0005).
  • Demonstrated ability to use mills, lathes, surface grinders, layout and measuring equipment.
  • Machinist, Welding, Cutting and Fabricating Knowledge.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Computer skills in Excel, Outlook, Word.
  • Good Communication skills, both verbal and written.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to program using mastercam, and or opticam software.

Responsibilities

  • Sets up and operates and programs conventional, special purpose, NC machines, CNC machining centers, CNC grinders, CNC lathe, Tykem laser, and wire EDM, working to close tolerance to fabricate, overhaul, rebuild or repair replacement parts, fixtures or devices.
  • Dismantles and rebuilds machines or equipment to proper working order.
  • Works to close tolerance (± .00005) to fit parts for press fits, running fits and sliding fits.
  • Programs using mastercam, and or opticam software.
  • Reads and/or studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work-piece, sequence of operations and setup requirements.
  • Makes or repairs parts for replacement in machines or fixtures.
  • Verifies conformance of finished work-piece to specifications.
  • Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly and verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly.
  • Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, equipment and tests operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Operates welding equipment to cut or weld parts.
  • Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch of part or product to be fabricated.
  • Grooves all types of grinding machine wheels and makes wheel strops.
  • Assists in Blade Forming and Welding, Grinding, heat treat, and finishing as needed.
  • Dresses Grind and Final hones wheels for grinding department.
  • Grinds breaker knives, breaker dies, rebuilds wigglers, rebuilds indexing wheels.
  • Rebuilds Spindles and dressers.
  • Grinds chill blocks and guides to specifications.
  • Sharpens carbide grinder station front plates and breaker dies.
  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
