About The Position

The Tool and Die Maker will build dies from concept and strip layout drawings, efficiently plan work sequence, read and understand design drawings, and assist with die tryout and part inspection. This role requires a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Tool and Die Maker, including experience in maintaining and repairing production dies. The position involves working in an uncontrolled environment with noise, dust, and dirt, and requires significant physical activity including standing, bending, lifting, and using hands and arms for extended periods. The candidate must be able to operate machinery safely, maintain 6S standards, and possess strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Tool and Die Maker.
  • Experience in maintaining and repairing production dies.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of blueprint reading.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Basic math skills (ex. addition, subtraction, multiplication, fraction/decimal equivalents).
  • Mechanical inclination.
  • Self-starter with strong personal initiative.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Interpersonal and written communication.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Ability to work well with others on a team.
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to have performance measured daily.
  • Ability to work up to 8-10 hour shifts and overtime as required.

Responsibilities

  • Build dies from concept and strip layout drawings.
  • Efficiently plan work sequence.
  • Read and understand design drawings.
  • Assist with die tryout and part inspection.
  • Analyze blueprints, determine materials required, and machine various pieces of material and components to make, modify, or repair tools and dies.
  • Try out new tooling or production equipment and rework and modify tooling until an acceptable part is produced from specified material.
  • Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances using measuring instruments.
  • Develop specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draw or sketch product designs.
  • Assist in and/or work with other trades as directed.
  • Operate machinery in a safe manner.
  • Maintain 6S standards in all work stations.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Set up and run press.
  • Troubleshoot progressive sheet metal stamping tools.
  • Mentor others.
  • Lead by example.
