About The Position

Under the direction of the Department Manager, the primary purpose of the Tool & Die Maker position is to support and assist production through building and maintaining new and existing production tooling and fixtures. The Tool & Die Maker will act in a manner that is consistent with Gordon Aluminum’s Customer 1st Philosophy.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of six months on-the-job training.
  • Proficiency with 3 axis mills, manual lathes, 3 axis surface grinders, bench grinders, hand tools, heat treatment furnaces and other equipment.
  • Ability to read and evaluate blueprints, including the use and understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Wear required safety equipment when on the shop floor.
  • Regularly required to talk or hear; walk; use hands or fingers to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently required to stand.
  • Occasionally required to sit or stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

Nice To Haves

  • A basic understanding of hydraulic and electrical schematics is encouraged.
  • Technical degree in tool and die making preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Program and operate CNC and manual equipment to efficiently machine and fabricate new production fixtures.
  • Read and evaluate blueprints, including the use and understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance.
  • Produce quality fixtures and tooling that meet print expectations and tolerances.
  • Apply knowledge of production machining techniques and processes to ensure fixtures are built with production quality and process capability in mind.
  • Troubleshoot problems and identify potential solutions.
  • Plumb pneumatic or hydraulic fixtures, assemble or disassemble dies, troubleshoot and repair equipment made by GAI staff and support maintenance staff as needed through manufacturing components or parts on request.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of the department’s equipment and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Take initiative, promptly seeking his or her next task, requiring minimal supervision.
  • Perform all work-related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Federal, State, and local standards and regulations.
  • Adhere to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding safety and standards of workplace behavior, in completing job duties and assignments.
