About The Position

We are seeking a skilled Mid-Level Tool Design Engineer to join our team supporting cutting-edge aerospace programs. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, modeling, and documentation of tooling solutions used in the manufacturing and assembly of complex aerospace hardware. You will work cross-functionally with engineering teams and interface directly with program stakeholders to deliver high-quality, review-ready tool designs that meet program requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 3–6 years of experience in tool design or manufacturing engineering within aerospace, defense, or a related industry
  • Proficiency in CREO and/or CATIA for 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation
  • Experience producing engineering drawings in .CATDrawing or .drw format
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and document engineering requirements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint for preparing technical presentation materials
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce review-ready deliverables

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on programs with NASA, commercial space, DOD space or other space/launch vehicle customers
  • Familiarity with requirement and design review processes and requirements management frameworks
  • Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) per ASME Y14.5
  • Knowledge of aerospace manufacturing processes, including composites, machined parts, and GSE tooling
  • Experience with WindChill PLM
  • Experience working in an ITAR-controlled environment

Responsibilities

  • Develop complete 3D and 2D models and engineering drawings using CREO and/or CATIA software.
  • Produce drawings in .CATDrawing or .drw file formats in accordance with program standards.
  • Ensure all models and drawings are fully complete and ready for peer review and final approval prior to submission.
  • Incorporate review feedback and manage drawing revisions.
  • Develop and/or assist in developing tooling requirements for each tool created throughout the program lifecycle.
  • Prepare and/or assist in preparing requirements material slides for design or requirements reviews.
  • Produce presentation slides in .ppt file format, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and alignment with program objectives.
  • Collaborate with systems and program engineering teams to ensure requirements are traceable and complete.
  • Develop presentation slides for formal design reviews, based on provided Concepts of Operations (CONOPs) for each tool.
  • Produce design review presentations in PPT for tools designed, ensuring content is comprehensive and review-ready.
  • Coordinate with engineering and program teams to ensure design review presentations accurately reflect tool design intent and CONOPs alignment.
  • Author comprehensive tool use instruction documents for each tool designed, including but not limited to proper tool usage, inspection procedures, and maintenance requirements.
  • Ensure instructions are clear, accurate, and suitable for use by technicians and operators in a manufacturing or assembly environment.
  • Deliver all tool use instruction documents in Microsoft Word (.docx) file format.
  • Coordinate with subject matter experts, safety personnel, and program teams to validate instruction content prior to release.
  • Conduct and document analysis of available suppliers for tooling materials and components, including all supporting trade studies performed and supplier attributes considered (e.g., lead time, cost, quality, capability).
  • Create and maintain Purchase Order (PO) tracking documents to support procurement activities throughout the program lifecycle.
  • Deliver all supplier analysis and PO tracking documents in .xlsx file format.
  • Provide any supporting tools developed for analysis or tracking purposes in their original source file format.
  • Perform load analyses for tools designed to verify structural adequacy under expected operating conditions.
  • Execute load analyses using hand calculations or Finite Element Analysis (FEA) models as required by the complexity of the tool and program requirements.
  • Submit FEA analyses and associated models in ANSYS file format.
  • Submit hand calculations in Microsoft Excel or MathCAD format.
  • Ensure all stress analyses are traceable to tool requirements and are review-ready for program milestones.
