Positions in this classification are responsible for operating a central tool crib and the receiving, storing, distribution and inventory control of tools, equipment, furniture, supplies and related material. The role provides expertise and advice to users on the usage, maintenance, and selection of tools, equipment, furniture, supplies and other related materials. It involves sourcing new tools, equipment, furniture and other supplies, facilitating procurement, making recommendations and estimates, and obtaining quotations. The operator purchases tools, equipment, furniture and other supplies in accordance with departmental guidelines and processes. They receive, store, and distribute items, perform regular inventory checks and random spot checks, and document and maintain manual and electronic records. Routine maintenance of tools and equipment is also a responsibility, including inspecting items for damage, repairing or arranging for repairs/replacement. The role also arranges for the renting of tools and equipment not available in the department, provides training to borrowers on proper handling and operation, and develops a vendor delivery schedule. Courier service to trades shops for issuing and returning items and maintaining transaction records is part of the role, as is operating a forklift and other equipment. Adherence to security and safety measures, ensuring a safe workplace, and carrying out any other related duties are also required.
