About The Position

The Tool Crib Specialist is responsible for the efficient operation of the tool crib, managing the purchasing, receiving, storage, issuance, and tracking of tooling, gauges, fixtures, and consumables. This role supports manufacturing and engineering teams by maintaining accurate inventory, ensuring proper tool calibration, coordinating with vendors, and sustaining tooling management systems that uphold production readiness and quality standards. The ideal candidate brings strong organizational skills, ERP experience, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement, all without direct supervisory duties.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience in a manufacturing tool room, tool crib, or CNC machining support role.
  • Familiarity with cutting tools, gages, fixturing, and machine tool components.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience using ERP systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
  • Comfortable reading and interpreting technical documents and drawings.
  • Knowledge of calibration systems, gage tracking, and tool life management.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in aerospace, precision machining, or high-mix/low-volume production.
  • Experience with MRP/ERP platforms (e.g., JobBOSS, Epicor, or similar).
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing or 5S tool room practices.
  • Technical certification in manufacturing technology, machining, or industrial maintenance.
  • Experience communicating with vendors and supporting tooling procurement.
  • Experience training others or supporting onboarding in tooling procedures

Responsibilities

  • Receive, inspect, store, issue, and track tooling, gages, fixtures, and expendables.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records through cycle counts, usage logs, and ERP system updates.
  • Organize the tool crib to ensure orderly and accessible storage following 5S principles.
  • Dispose of damaged or defective tooling per established protocols or coordinate returns to vendors.
  • Manage job charging and downtime records, collaborating with Manufacturing and HR teams on corrections or training as needed.
  • Procure tooling, equipment, and supplies required for ongoing operations.
  • Monitor stock levels and perform spot buys or source new vendors when necessary.
  • Track shipments, follow up on delays or undelivered goods, and maintain purchasing records.
  • Review catalogs and consult internal departments to identify tool and supply needs.
  • Manage gage calibration schedules and ensure all tools comply with calibration standards.
  • Maintain gage tool databases and certification records.
  • Coordinate internal and external maintenance or repair activities related to tooling.
  • Partner with machinists, engineers, and production personnel to ensure tooling availability and accuracy.
  • Support updates to manufacturing standards and tooling procedures.
  • Participate in lean initiatives and suggest process improvements related to tooling and inventory management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
