Accurately reports production and scrap using Factivity or the required method. Actively participates in continuous improvement activities. Studies specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualizes the product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts. Computes dimensions, plans layout, and determines assembly method and sequence of operations. Sets up, operates, and programs machine tools and inspection equipment and verifies the conformance of machined parts to specifications. Smooths flat and contoured surfaces to required specifications and fits and assembles parts together and into assemblies and mechanisms. Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances. Uses the tool plan system to move inventory and release jobs. Heat treats tools or parts. Retrieves drawings as required. Examines standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommends design modifications regarding construction and function of parts. Develops specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draws or sketches the design of the product. Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining. Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on tooling machines. Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media. Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required. Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly. Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and tests operation of the unit to ensure functionality and performance. Operates equipment to cut, braze, or solder parts. Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining and production related problems. Completes other tasks within the job classification as assigned.
