About The Position

This role is responsible for machining, constructing, and/or fabricating fixtures, details, prototypes, or work stations with or without detailed prints. The specialist must be able to troubleshoot mechanical or functional issues with fixtures or work stations, repair them, or effectively communicate issues to maintenance for resolution. The role requires the ability to operate or use all necessary equipment or tools, including forklifts, stand-up lifts, chain hoists, machine tools, and measurement devices.

Requirements

High School diploma or GED
Tool and Die Making Certificate
Must successfully pass any pre-screening test(s)
Good safety and attendance record
Knowledge in all plant equipment related to metal stamping
Ability to work and manage others
Demonstrated ability to safely and proficiently set up, program, and operate all tool room machine tools: CNC milling machine, lathe, band saw, surface grinder, press brake, and drill press
Proficiently use all necessary measurement devices: caliper, micrometer, gage blocks, depth gages, dial indicators, and thread gages.
Use TIG and spot welders as necessary

Install and plumb mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical devices
Dress and route cables and air lines in work bench frames
To interact with all levels of employees
Able to multi-task
Experience with making models from prototypes and samples from drawings or blueprints
Experience with making layouts and calculating die clearances and tonnages
Must be proficient in use of a personal computer and data entry
Standing, sitting and walking for long periods of time
Able to work overtime as needed
Able to lift 40 lbs
Climbing Stairs: Ascending or descending stairs to gain access to a building or to move from one floor to another.
Light Carrying: Physically transporting general office items/materials from one location to another.
Fingering: Typing for extending periods of time, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm.

Visual Requirement: Able to see and read PC screens; detect color coding, read fine print, and/or normal type size print.
Bending and Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
Ability to understand, remember, and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information.
Ability to understand, remember, and communicate routine, factual information.
Ability to organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology.
Ability to organize and prioritize own work schedule.

Responsibilities

Follow all safety procedures and practices.
Ensure and maintain quality guidelines, procedures, and standards are consistently followed throughout the manufacturing operation.
Troubleshoot tooling problems and equipment mechanical issues.
Maintain records, track and order tool-room and project supplies for all tooling activities.
Assist Grote engineers or outside vendors in the installation of new or revised processes, equipment or work stations.
Build fixtures and assembly equipment according to prints.
Cast holding nests.
Make new or repair jigs and fixtures.
Coordinate the heat treating of the tooling, jigs and fixtures utilizing approved outside sources.
Perform any necessary operations within the group to ensure timely repair, installation and changeovers of tooling.
Follow and carry out corporate procedures, policies, guidelines, legal requirements, and etc.
Report quality or efficiency problems, and other matters to the Supervisor for corrective action.
Keep the work area clean and orderly at all times.
Assist in the training of employees in the repair and maintenance of all metalworking tools, plastic molds, and fixtures.
Occasionally direct the work of other Tool-room employees as instructed by the Production Leader.
Participate in problem solving activities.
Participate in Grote Production System (GPS) activities.
Maintain 5S and keep work areas clean and organized.
Follow other instructions and perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
