About The Position
Westaff is hiring a Tool & Die Maker for a Manufacturer in Meriden, CT. This role involves studying blueprints, planning machining operations, setting up and operating machine tools, and assembling and repairing dies. The ideal candidate will have experience in component/tooling fabrication, troubleshooting, and repair, and be a CT-approved Journeyperson with the ability to read and understand blueprints and GDT.
Requirements
- Experience in Component/Tooling Fabrication, Trouble Shooting Tooling and Repairing Tooling.
- Set-up – Trouble shooting
- CT approved (apprenticeship completed) Journeyperson
- Ability to read - understand blue prints and GDT as needed for production manufacturing
Responsibilities
- Studies blueprints of die and product, die models, templates, and prototype parts and visualizes shape, mechanical structure, and operation of die.
- Computes dimensions, plans machining, layout, and assembly operations.
- Measures, marks, and scribes metal stock for machining by other workers.
- Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathe, milling machine, drill press, and grinder, to machine parts to specifications, and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications.
- Lifts machined parts and positions them for assembly on worktable or surface plate.
- Smoothes flat and contoured surfaces and fits parts to each other.
- Verifies dimensions, clearances, and alignment of members and parts in die.
- Dowels and bolts parts together.
- Works to tolerances as close as 0.0005 inch.
- Dismantles die and repairs or replaces parts.
