About The Position

Catholic Charities SF, a large human services organization, is seeking a Toddler Teacher for the Treasure Island Child Development Center (TICDC). TICDC is a collaborative, child-centered environment serving families with children aged 3 months to 5 years. The center provides a secure and stimulating environment with an enriched day program that combines early care and education with family support activities and resource referral. The Teacher position is responsible for providing developmentally appropriate care and education for children, cooperating with parents, and working as a team with TICDC staff to implement the center's philosophy, goals, and objectives. The Teacher also acts as a leader in mentoring substitute teachers, aides, and interns.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a valid California Associate Teacher permit.
  • 6 additional units of coursework in Infant Toddler care.
  • Minimum one year of center-based care experience.
  • Understand the rationale and procedure for child abuse reporting as mandated by state law and the responsibility for action as a mandated reporter.
  • Certified in Pediatric CPR and First Aid.

Responsibilities

  • Read and understand program philosophy, personnel policies, position description, non-discrimination policy, and other related materials.
  • Assist in planning and implementing curriculum according to Creative Curriculum guidelines, incorporating California Foundations and Curriculum Frameworks, Desired Results Developmental Profiles (DRDPs), CSEFEL strategies, and child observations.
  • Establish a primary relationship with a group of children and their families.
  • Guide children in conflict management and problem-solving strategies.
  • Supervise and directly interact with children in a warm and positive manner.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff members, accept supervision, and promote positive communication.
  • Maintain child files and open contact logs.
  • Provide feedback to the Program Manager/Director regarding staff interactions in the classroom.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all personal information regarding families, children, and staff.
  • Assist in developing, preparing, and implementing a written curriculum plan with weekly updates, including environment enhancements, activities, routines, garden activities, and schedules that are developmentally, culturally, and linguistically appropriate.
  • Participate in monthly rotation of documentation boards.
  • Oversee and be responsible for the observation, recording, and DRDP assessment of children, resulting in an environment supportive of their changing needs.
  • Complete and submit DRDP assessments on time through DRDP tech and COCOA.
  • Provide oral and written language experiences, including home language when possible, appropriate to each child’s level of interest and developmental capacity.
  • Monitor outdoor play areas to ensure security and that children cannot access unsafe or unsupervised areas.
  • Maintain accepted standards of order, cleanliness, and sanitation of program facilities.
  • Solicit and respond to families' requests and suggestions, communicating them to appropriate staff.
  • Prepare for and participate in parent-teacher conferences twice a year (November and May).
  • Participate in on-site and off-site learning opportunities in accordance with a professional development plan and in professional growth activities.
  • Assist the Program Manager and/or Lead Teacher with supervision, training, and evaluation of substitutes, interns, and volunteers constructively.
  • Work with the Program Manager and Lead Teacher to implement California Department of Education program goal setting, DRDP goal setting for the program, and a timeline for completion.
  • Utilize resource materials such as books, articles, and videos to enhance individual professional growth.
  • Seek information relevant to the needs of the children being served, such as school readiness, bilingual development, special needs, and ages and stages of development.
  • Assist the Lead Teacher and team in planning activities that integrate social, emotional, physical, cognitive, language, and aesthetic development.
  • Respond to behavioral signals from children that indicate a need for a change in teaching style to meet their emotional or intellectual development needs.
  • Prepare for and participate in staff Professional Learning Community, sharing expertise with teaching staff.
  • Acknowledge and celebrate the variety and differences between families, and create a classroom environment that reflects community diversity.
  • Implement the food service program according to center policies, established food handling and nutritional guidelines, and a written menu.
  • Follow center policies and procedures for health and safety, indoors and outdoors.
  • Ensure the classroom is in compliance at all times, including ratios, daily completion of sign-in sheets, and required daily health checks.
  • Administer medication in compliance with agency policies and guidelines.
  • Report to the supervisor any needs for replacement or repair of indoor and outdoor supplies and equipment.
  • Actively involve parents/guardians in classroom and center activities.
  • Actively collaborate with parents/guardians in an ongoing and positive manner to support each child’s development.
  • Support and facilitate the inclusion of all children in the center, when possible.
  • Promote and enhance the child’s and families' participation in all program events.
  • Maintain an active teaching permit, including renewal, upgrading, and all required professional development work.
