TMS Technician and Clinical Research Assistant
About The Position
Gateway Community Service Board is seeking a motivated, organized, and patient-centered individual to serve in a dual role as a TMS Technician and Clinical Research Assistant. Primary responsibilities include coordinating and conducting clinical research activities, with the ability to provide Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) technician services to support clinic operations as needed. This position supports the daily operations of Gateway's rapidly expanding Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Clinic while assisting with investigator-initiated clinical research focused on advancing neuromodulation treatments for individuals with serious mental illness. The successful candidate will provide direct patient care during TMS treatments, administer standardized clinical assessments, assist with data collection, regulatory documentation, and research database management. Requirements
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in: Psychology, Neuroscience, Biology, Nursing, Public Health, Health Sciences, Social Work or related field
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Ability to work compassionately with psychiatric patients.
- High level of professionalism and confidentiality.
- Strong computer proficiency.
- Ability to utilize multiple software systems including: Electronic Medical Record, REDCap, Microsoft Office, Electronic regulatory systems.
- Ability to work independently while functioning effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities
- Screen potential research participants.
- Coordinate participant visits.
- Maintain study schedules.
- Administer standardized research questionnaires.
- Assist with informed consent procedures.
- Collect research outcome measures.
- Enter research data into respective databases (e.g. REDCap, Microsoft Teams).
- Maintain study databases with high attention to detail.
- Perform quality assurance and data verification.
- Assist with preparation of study reports.
- Assist with IRB submissions and continuing reviews.
- Maintain regulatory documentation (e.g. recruitment, deviations, adverse events).
- Coordinate referrals from clinical programs.
- Communicate with outside providers regarding study eligibility.
- Develop recruitment materials under investigator supervision.
- Deliver TMS treatments according to physician-prescribed protocols.
- Operate TMS equipment safely and accurately.
- Perform daily coil positioning and treatment parameter verification.
- Monitor patients throughout treatment for safety, tolerability, and clinical response.
- Recognize adverse events and promptly notify supervising physician.
- Maintain competency with manufacturer-specific TMS equipment and software.
- Optimize patient comfort during treatments.
- Build therapeutic rapport with patients throughout treatment course.
- Administer standardized psychiatric rating scales as applicable (e.g. PHQ-9, GAD-7).
- Assess patients for worsening symptoms or suicidality and communicate concerns immediately to the physician.
- Schedule and reschedule appointments within the electronic medical record.
- Confirm appointments and communicate with patients regarding treatment schedules.
- Complete insurance prior authorizations.
- Obtain outside medical records and releases of information.
- Coordinate communication among physicians, therapists, referral sources, and patients.
- Document treatment sessions accurately within the EMR.
