About The Position

Lighthouse Community Public Schools (LCPS) is seeking a full-time TK Teacher in Training to support its growing transitional kindergarten program. This role is designed for emerging professionals who aim to develop the skills necessary to become a teacher or pupil support services professional. The Teacher in Training will have the opportunity to apply for the Alder Teacher Residency to earn a credential and their own classroom. LCPS offers support for tuition assistance to complete degree requirements or to enter the Alder Teacher Residency. Teachers in Training contribute to both the Core Day and After School Program (ASP) by providing tutoring, academic support, behavioral support, enrichments, supervision, and other tasks crucial for student well-being and achievement. This position is ideal for individuals looking to grow within the education field.

Requirements

  • B.A. or B.S. required (for Level 2-with BA)
  • A.A. or equivalent coursework required (for Level 1-AA or equivalent; Instructional Aide exam accepted with a growth plan)
  • 2+ years of related experience and/or experience working in schools, early childhood education, or with youth highly preferred (for Level 2-with BA)
  • Related experience and/or experience working in schools or with youth preferred (for Level 1-AA or equivalent)
  • Spanish bilingual preferred
  • Knowledge of Google apps
  • Must complete requirements for school-based hiring prior to start: DOJ/FBI Livescan Background Check, CPR/First Aid Certification, TB Test or Risk Assessment, Mandatory reporter training.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic and behavioral support to a caseload of TK students during the core day, as assigned by the AP of Instruction and the AP of Culture.
  • Deliver individualized or small group instruction in academic, literacy, math, behavioral/social-emotional, and social skills.
  • Implement behavior intervention strategies and plans as needed.
  • Communicate with students’ families in conjunction with teachers to discuss progress and growth areas.
  • Monitor and document student progress towards intervention and support goals.
  • Teach a class of students during the After School Program (ASP), extending core day learning and providing structured enrichment activities.
  • Actively supervise recess and lunch during both core day and ASP, ensuring safe and predictable play, healthy nutrition, and playground/lunchroom setup and cleanup.
  • Provide academic support in an environment that promotes student success and independence during core day and ASP programs.
  • Collaboratively plan and lead activities that build meaningful community connections.
  • Support with other key tasks across the school day, including proctoring assessments, communicating with families, and supporting teachers and student engagement as assigned.
  • Attend and actively participate in professional development activities, team and staff meetings to improve student support and engagement effectiveness.
  • Actively collaborate with other staff and the larger Lighthouse Community.
  • Maintain a high standard of professional behavior and adhere to all school staff policies, including Mandated Reporter, staff/student interaction policies, and other requirements.
