About The Position

Lighthouse Community Public Schools (LCPS) is seeking a dedicated Health & Fitness Elective Teacher for the 26-27 school year. LCPS is an educational organization committed to disrupting inequities and providing exceptional educational opportunities. Their mission is to prepare diverse students for college, careers, and to be lifelong changemakers. LCPS operates two high-achieving TK-12 public charter schools in East Oakland, serving over 1,600 students.

Requirements

  • B.A. or B.S.
  • Appropriate California Teaching Credential or commitment and verified ability to acquire one.
  • Valid Certificate of Clearance verifying professional fitness for all CA teachers of record.
  • Familiarity navigating educational platforms.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of California Common Core State Standards, student-centered, mastery-based learning, curriculum planning, and data analysis.
  • 2+ years teaching urban youth with transformational results.
  • Experience teaching in a progressive school model.
  • Bilingual in Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Health & Fitness to multiple sections of students across multiple grades.
  • Provide supports during non-teaching blocks, including co-teaching, assessment support, and co-facilitating community meetings.
  • Teach or co-teach small-group phonics/reading instruction and/or ELD.
  • Lead an advisory (Crew) daily.
  • Perform morning or afternoon duty (yard supervision) up to 2 times per week.
  • Lead a guided study hall or designated ELD course depending on school needs and teacher licensure.
  • Demonstrate culturally responsive pedagogy with rigorous content and high expectations.
  • Plan, internalize, and implement adopted, effective, grade-level standards-based curriculum, units, and lessons.
  • Differentiate curriculum while maintaining rigor for all student subgroups.
  • Utilize, collect, and analyze rigorous, student-engaged assessments (formative and summative) to track student progress.
  • Build and maintain a supportive and learning-centered classroom culture.
  • Create positive relationships with students and families.
  • Engage in professional development and personal growth as an educator.
  • Demonstrate advocacy, flexibility, and collegiality.
  • Administer all policies and procedures in a professional and timely manner.
