About The Position

Best Homes Title Agency is seeking a highly motivated and proactive Title Examiner to join their team. This role is crucial for maintaining current clientele and supporting business growth for Best Homes Title Agency and BHT Commercial Title & Escrow Services. Best Homes Title Agency is an industry-leading title and settlement services business with over 15 years of experience, known for innovation, security, and technology. They handle title and escrow matters throughout the Midwest and are licensed in 13 states, with a dedicated team of professionals and in-house attorneys to support various client needs. The Title Examiner position requires strong research, document preparation, and cross-functional collaboration skills. The ideal candidate will possess excellent written and verbal communication, organizational skills, strong time management, and meticulous attention to detail. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 5+ years of Title Examiner experience required
  • Experience working with Resware, Qualia, or other industry software is required
  • Extensive background in examining Michigan properties required

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree or higher preferred
  • 7-10+ years of Title Examiner experience preferred
  • Multi-state title experience preferred
  • Ability to serve as a role model by maintaining high-quality standards and providing educational assistance/constructive feedback to team members.

Responsibilities

  • Search and examine titles of moderate to advanced complexity in accordance with company and underwriting examining procedures to determine the status of the title or establish a chain of title.
  • Abstract and analyze deeds, mortgages, easements, judgments, tax assessments, mineral reservations, and other applicable instruments.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in mapping unplatted land.
  • Compile reports from searched data, type commitments/search products, and bill accordingly.
  • Update commitments/search products through closing.
  • Review commitments and closing documents after closing. Type and produce final policies.
  • Respond to various requests from company employees, affiliates/attorneys, and the general public regarding the status of legal title and insurability of title.
  • Locate, compile, and post information from city, county, and other public records for updating company files, logs, and indexes.
  • Search/examine and write continuations and reinsured cases of moderate complexity.
  • Review and process title clearance requests, indemnities, policies, and corrections.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to clients and internal staff members.
  • Complete all other duties as assigned.
