As the Tissue Culture Technician, you will support the tissue culture program by preparing media, transplant plantlets, monitoring tissue cultures, transfer to other vessels, and other duties as assigned. You will be working with the tissue culture and R&D team together, ensuring that tissue culture plants are in optimal health and inventoried correctly in the ERP system. You will participate in R&D meetings, and are expected to deliver progress reports in a professional manner. The ideal candidate is energetic, collaborative, and forward- thinking. This position is based out of Stayner, Ontario.

Requirements

  • Graduates from a B.Sc. program in Horticulture, Microbiology, Plant Agriculture, Plant Biology, Plant Pathology or strong lab related work experience will be considered
  • Experience in tissue culture, plant and/or horticultural science, involvement in R&D projects is an asset.
  • Ability to execute fine motoric movements while working in a sterile lab environment
  • Possess strong communication, interpersonal and influencing skills to drive decision-making and effectively work with internal stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and sterilizes tissue culture media
  • Transplants plantlets into other media
  • Troubleshooting tissue culture problems
  • Keeps data and records on tissue cultures in compliance with regulations
  • Cleans tissue culture vessels and equipment
  • Actively participates in research and tissue culture discussions and meetings
  • Writing and reporting of technical results and information
  • Track and evaluate effectiveness of treatments and determine next steps
  • Presenting findings, scientific insights and recommendations to peers
  • Other duties as required to support the organization.
