Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree preferred
  • Skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Database Management and Spreadsheets
  • Must obtain ITRE Certification for TIMS Managers and Operators within a specified time after being employed.
  • Valid NC driver's license (and must be able to hold a NC Bus license)
  • Work in this classification is considered medium physical work requiring the occasional exertion of 50 pounds of force and frequent exertion of up to 20 pounds of force, and constant exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, to move objects.
  • Must be able to: Obtain a bus license
  • Walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, and crouch
  • Work in various inside and outside environments, being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, job hazards, and atmospheric conditions
  • Use visual acuity required for depth perception and color perception
  • Visually inspect small defects and/or small parts
  • Use a variety of measuring devices
  • Assemble or fabricate parts at or within arm’s length
  • Operate machines, motor vehicles, hand tools, and job-specific equipment and tools
  • Determine the accuracy and thoroughness of work
  • Observe general surroundings and activities
  • Hear sufficiently to accurately perceive information at normally spoken word levels
  • Use communication by means of the spoken word to express or exchange ideas
  • Safely work in situations of exposure to blood-borne pathogens, which may require specialized personal protective equipment

Responsibilities

  • Assigns students requiring transportation to and from designated school bus stops. If a stop does not exist, develop and implement a new bus stop
  • Enters data and updates information as provided to keep bus routing current and accurate
  • Troubleshoot and resolved bus route issues, including data analysis
  • Works with the county 911 addressing GIS planning
  • Performs updates to the TIMS student file from the PowerSchool student data
  • Gathers and evaluates information of streets, addresses, speed limits, and railroad crossings, etc., and enters this information into the TIMS geographic module
  • Effectively communicates with bus drivers, parents, transportation staff, school staff, PowerSchool operators, central service staff, stakeholders, and other users
  • Assists with general office duties
  • Assists with school bus driver certification training and orientation
  • Maintain Geocode updates, including street name changes, address changes, and traffic pattern changes
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor
  • Summarizes statistics from various sources into a comprehensive report from limited instructions.
  • Juggles appointments and manages the supervisor’s calendar; arranges travel schedules, makes reservations, and prepares travel vouchers and expense reports for supervisor and/or department personnel.
  • Reviews incoming mail to keep informed on the status of matters being handled; routes other mail to appropriate departments or divisions; handles routine correspondence and independently prepares appropriate replies.
  • Receives telephone calls and visitors; facilitates problem solving, gives out detailed information regarding department activities and programs; refers calls or visitors to appropriate officials.
  • Maintain departmental records; record transactions and data in journals, ledgers, logs, and on special forms; acts as a point of contact for the area served and gives information or refers inquiries to proper personnel.
  • Uses a variety of mathematical formulas; summarizes statistical information; prepares charts, graphs, and tables.
  • Processes information using a variety of computer-driven word processing, spreadsheet, and file maintenance programs, which requires the use of a variety of complicated formats for preparing correspondence, reports, and manuscripts.
  • Work includes responsibility for the accuracy of spelling, punctuation, format, and grammar.
  • Composes forms, letters, memorandums, reports, and minutes; drafts information and materials for various purposes.
  • Enters data for equipment repair and parts order records for school buses, service trucks, and all school system vehicles into the State Vehicle Fleet Management System.
  • Verifies the accuracy of parts purchased against the invoice and enters them into the State Vehicle Management System.
  • Files equipment repair and parts sheets, parts purchase records, records of rebuilt engines and other parts, maintenance, bus log records, and inspection records.
  • Calculates cost and enters data into the State Vehicle Fleet Management System for records of rebuilt engines and parts.
  • Enter daily fuel usage data for all vehicles and odometer readings into the State Vehicle Fleet Management System.
