About The Position

A paraprofessional assists a teacher with daily classroom activities, including helping schedule and implement curriculum-aligned programs and performing general classroom and clerical duties. These duties may include maintaining a clean and safe environment and printing and preparing educational materials. The role supports students’ educational progress and individualized educational programs, and may involve assisting students with personal-care activities.

Requirements

Meet at least one of the following qualification requirements: complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education, defined as 48 semester hours of college coursework; obtain an associate’s degree or higher; or take and pass the WorkKeys test, Parapro Test, or Oklahoma General Education Test.
Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Compose and write grammatically correct correspondence and memos.
Solve practical problems and deal with concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
Interpret instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, schedule, or blueprint form.
Meet the described physical demands of the position, with reasonable accommodations where applicable.

Responsibilities

Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to develop appropriate individual educational programs (IEPs).
Assist students with daily tasks as directed by the teacher.
Assist teachers with conducting lessons, managing the classroom, and developing materials.
Track student progress during the school year and create reports to help parents understand what their children are learning.
Communicate with educational and related-services staff and other professionals concerned with students’ educational progress.
Work with small-group activities.
Assist students with appropriate behavior.
Assist teachers in providing activities that enhance students’ quality of life, including showering and diaper changing.
Assist the teacher with implementing individualized educational programs.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
