About The Position

The Ticket Taker is the first face guests see when they arrive at Phoenix Convention Center events. This position is responsible for scanning and validating tickets at assigned entry points while delivering a welcoming, professional guest experience. Ticket Takers also support pre-event setup during the early-call window, helping ensure the venue is operationally ready before doors open. Across approximately 240-250 events per season, this role is essential to keeping entry operations accurate, efficient, and guest-friendly.

Requirements

  • English-speaking required
  • Comfortable operating handheld scanning equipment (training provided).
  • Ability to stand for extended periods in a high-energy, high-volume event environment.
  • Must pass a background check as required by the client prior to first event.
  • Available for a flexible event-based schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior customer service, hospitality, or event staffing experience preferred but not required.
  • Bilingual (English plus additional language) preferred.
  • Experience in a performing arts, entertainment venue, or convention center setting.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish or English/other language.
  • Prior experience with digital ticketing platforms or barcode/QR scanning systems.

Responsibilities

  • Scan and validate guest tickets using venue-provided handheld scanning equipment at assigned entry points.
  • Greet guests professionally and courteously, establishing a positive first impression at every event.
  • Identify and immediately escalate invalid, expired, or counterfeit tickets to the Ticket Taker Lead.
  • Arrive during the early-call window (30-60 minutes before doors) to stuff program inserts and set them at portal entry doors.
  • Remain at assigned post throughout the ingress period; respond to repositioning instructions from the Ticket Taker Lead.
  • Assist guests with questions related to venue access, seating sections, and general directions.
  • Monitor entry queue to support orderly, efficient guest flow and prevent bottlenecks at entry points.
  • Maintain awareness of emergency procedures and exit locations for the assigned venue.
