  • Degree in Engineering or related (STEM) field from an ABET-accredited university is required.
  • Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a master’s degree with at least 8 years of experience, or a BS with at least 10 years of experience.
  • Senior-level electrical or electromechanical engineering experience in a laboratory, test, aerospace, propulsion, or similar technical environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently plan, organize, and execute engineering tasks; determine project objectives and requirements; and develop approaches for diverse technical activities.
  • Experience providing technical direction, mentoring, guidance, workload coordination, or review of work performed by engineers, technicians, or support personnel.
  • Design, integration, test, troubleshooting, or evaluation of electromechanical components, controllers, avionics, power systems, pumps, mechanisms, instrumentation, or related hardware.
  • Instrumentation, data acquisition, signal conditioning, wiring/cable interfaces, sensors/transducers, and electrical test setup planning and troubleshooting.
  • Expertise with system dynamics, modeling system response, and tuning control parameters for optimal performance.
  • Working knowledge of fabrication, integration processes, and quality control techniques relative to components, tubes, avionics, instrumentation, and/or welded hardware.
  • Experience with development, verification, qualification, validation, or troubleshooting testing of aerospace or complex technical components; ability to communicate technical issues, reports, results, and recommendations clearly.
  • Must be a US Citizen and have a STAR ID

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of component design for thrust vector control systems such as actuators, mechanisms, valves, bellows, tubes, latches, pressurized components, or aerospace hardware.
  • Knowledge of NASA, aerospace, or relevant industry design, construction, safety, and test standards.
  • Experience with launch vehicle, propulsion, ground cryogenic, pressure, hydraulic, pneumatic, or test facility systems.
  • Experience with LabVIEW, MATLAB, Simulink, WinPlot, data acquisition systems, test automation, or related engineering tools.
  • Experience with 3D CAD programs; Creo experience is preferred.
  • Experience with GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
  • Experience with electrical troubleshooting, cable fabrication/routing/testing, PLCs, controllers, or field-programmable devices.
  • Excellent technical writing, coordination, presentation, and customer-interface skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide senior-level electrical and electromechanical engineering support to the Propulsion Department’s laboratory and test activities.
  • Lead or coordinate design, integration, checkout, troubleshooting, and evaluation of electromechanical components, controllers, actuators, instrumentation, and related test systems.
  • Provide senior TVC and electromechanical actuator/controller support, including development, verification, troubleshooting, launch or test support, and evaluation as applicable.
  • Develop, evaluate, and improve control strategies for electromechanical systems, including feedback control loops, software interfaces, system response, and control parameter tuning.
  • Plan and coordinate electrical test setups, data acquisition, sensors/transducers, signal conditioning, wiring, cable/interface definition, and laboratory troubleshooting.
  • Evaluate requirements, hardware and software configurations, performance characteristics, test procedures, and test results; provide technical comments and recommended dispositions.
  • Coordinate with engineers, technicians, customers, and vendors to support fabrication, integration, test preparation, test execution, issue resolution, and workload prioritization.
  • Participate in or lead anomaly and failure investigation activities; identify, document, and pursue resolution of technical issues.
  • Create or review specifications for in-house and purchased hardware, and support vendor/supplier coordination as needed.
  • Support development and review of test plans and participate in testing for development, qualification, validation, and troubleshooting.
  • Analyze test and flight data, create performance reports, and deliver results with recommendations.
  • Provide periodic status updates to program, task, and team leadership, and mentor or guide less-experienced engineers and technicians as needed.
