About The Position

Hinds LifeCare, a well-respected nonprofit agency in California’s Central Valley and a pioneer in hospice and palliative care, is seeking a part-time Thrift Store Donation Attendant/Processor. This role involves various donation acceptance, processing, and customer service responsibilities within the thrift store, operating under the direction of the Thrift Store Manager, Assistant Manager, and/or Supervisor. The position requires building and breaking down cardboard boxes and pallets, moving and organizing stock, operating equipment like pallet jacks and furniture dollies, accepting donations, organizing the receiving area and stockroom, opening and unpacking cartons, sorting merchandise for salability, providing customer service, and stocking the sales floor. The organization is mission-driven, focused on upholding dignity and easing suffering for the terminally ill and supporting their loved ones. Requirements

  • High School diploma or completion of GED program
  • Minimum one year point of sale operation, cash handling, and credit terminal processing in a retail environment required.
  • Knowledge of pricing used goods, familiarity with the techniques in promoting and selling merchandise, good organizational skills, and knowledge of store maintenance and safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with other employees, volunteers and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and operate a cash register, and other simple office machinery.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (i.e., push/pull/lift/carry items in excess of 40 Lbs.)
  • Weekend availability required.

Responsibilities

  • Regularly builds and breaks-down tri-fold cardboard boxes and pallets for incoming and outgoing donations.
  • Regularly moves and organizes tri-fold cardboard boxes and pallets inside stockroom.
  • Operates departmental machinery according to proper policies and guidelines, including pallet jacks, furniture dollys, and other equipment required.
  • Communicates repair and/or service needs to supervisor.
  • Accepts and receives donated merchandise from donors per company policy.
  • Organizes donations within receiving area and stockroom.
  • Opens and unpacks cartons or crates of donated merchandise.
  • Sorts and examines merchandise to determine salability or disposal.
  • Provides customer service throughout the store and at point of sale.
  • Stocks sales floor with processed and priced merchandise.
  • Participates or executes merchandise displays and department moves as directed.
