About The Position

The Salvation Army is seeking a Thrift Store Clerk II to provide customer service, sort incoming products, and assist the Supervisor in the maintenance of all store operations. This is a casual, on-call position with no guaranteed hours, requiring schedule flexibility. The role may involve stress when working with "high demand" clients or during busy donation periods. The Salvation Army has served people in need for over 130 years, helping millions annually with necessities and support for various challenges. Requirements

  • Grade 12 Education
  • Up to 3 months of experience in retail and customer service
  • Ability to perform cash register duties
  • Conscientious of good customer service and treating customers with respect
  • Some understanding and knowledge of clothing, fabric, and furniture value and usefulness for sorting, pricing, and displaying donations
  • Ability to work within the mandate of and embrace the mission of The Salvation Army
  • Willingness to adhere to the Mission Statement and values of The Salvation Army
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Effective communication in English
  • Excellent team and interpersonal skills
  • Duties involve standing for long periods of time and/or lifting items weighing up to 15kg (33lbs)

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate customer service for all transactions, including Visa and Debit.
  • Communicate product and store information to customers.
  • Complete daily cash-out, sales receipt summaries, and bank deposit documentation.
  • Contribute to meeting store sales budgets by maintaining customer service standards.
  • Contribute to the safety of staff and customers by ensuring clear fire exits, removing obstacles, cleaning spills, and maintaining store cleanliness.
  • Receive, sort, and price donations according to store policies.
  • Place priced products on floor racks and shelves.
  • Remove product from and clean the donation bin.
  • Discard unusable and old product.
  • Rotate floor product as per Thrift Store policy.
  • Implement store layout plans to attract customers, including window and merchandise displays.
  • Contribute to inventory control by retrieving, sorting, and pricing items.
  • Protect the store from inventory shrinkage through visual monitoring.
  • Work with and provide direction to Thrift Store volunteers as required by the Store Supervisor.
  • Assist in daily cleaning duties of the Thrift Store, including sorting areas, staff washroom, product areas, floors, windows, change rooms, and exterior donation receiving areas.
