About The Position

Seeking a Part Time Thrift Store Clerk/Cashier to join our Massena Corps. This role is responsible for performing daily tasks necessary for maintaining the thrift store, including operations related to the storeroom, sales floor, and cash register.

Requirements

  • Retail sales/cashier experience is a plus.
  • Must possess good inter-personal and phone skills.
  • Must work well with others and independently.
  • Must be able to supervise and instruct.
  • Safety and situational awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Run cash register, including processing sales, discounts, and payments (cash, credit card, gift certificate).
  • Issue receipts and customer loyalty cards, and stamp loyalty cards.
  • Provide tax receipts for donations.
  • Count money in the cash drawer at the beginning and end of shifts, ensuring accuracy and adequate change.
  • Complete daily tally sheets with information from register reports.
  • Bag, box, or wrap items at the time of purchase.
  • Remove hangers from sold clothing and place them in the appropriate bin.
  • Work with employees and volunteers to replace hangers on racks.
  • Instruct volunteers on tasks designated by the Thrift Store Manager and provide guidance.
  • Report problems to the Store Manager and give instructions to volunteers in the absence of the Manager.
  • Work with staff and volunteers to sort, tag, and hang items for sale, following the tagging schedule.
  • Learn all roles in the store to fill in where needed, as each employee is trained in all aspects of day-to-day operations.
  • Meet daily quotas for sorting, hanging, pricing, and placing items for sale.
  • Follow procedures for removing items from the sales floor at the end of their rotation and place damaged or ragged clothing into the recycling trailer.
  • Assist other employees and volunteers in maintaining the general appearance and orderliness of the store and sorting areas.
  • Attend all store meetings and stay informed of policies, safety issues, and directives.
  • Maintain good customer relations by greeting customers, helping them locate items, answering questions, or finding a manager.
  • Greet customers making donations, accept items following store policies, and provide tickets for tax receipts.
  • Maintain a positive and professional work environment.
  • Secure the building when opening or closing.
  • Understand instructions and follow directions regarding the proper pricing, handling, and merchandising of items.
  • Perform one Customer Appreciation Day per year and work with the Thrift Store Manager to thank customers.
  • Be responsible for following applicable procedures, rules, and laws.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, which may change at any time with or without notice.
