About The Position

Bassett Healthcare Network, in central New York, is seeking a full-time BC/BE Thoracic Surgeon. This position involves performing a range of thoracic surgeries, including minimally invasive and complex procedures, and diagnosing/treating conditions affecting the chest and thoracic cavity. The role requires collaboration with various specialists to develop comprehensive treatment plans, provide patient care, and participate in research and quality improvement initiatives. The physician will also be involved in educating patients and families, and contributing to medical education for students and residents. The practice is part of an integrated system and a major teaching affiliate of Columbia University.

Requirements

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of a residency in General Surgery and fellowship in Thoracic Surgery or Cardiothoracic Surgery.
  • Board certification or eligibility in Thoracic Surgery
  • Valid medical license in New York State.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.
  • Familiarity with advanced imaging and diagnostic tools.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care and continuous professional development

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Da Vinci Xi
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary tumor board and ACS CoC accredited practices

Responsibilities

  • Perform thoracic surgeries, including minimally invasive and complex procedures
  • Diagnose and treat conditions affecting the chest and thoracic cavity
  • Collaborate with surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, pulmonologists, and other specialists to develop comprehensive treatment plans
  • Provide preoperative and postoperative care to patients
  • Participate in clinical research and contribute to quality improvement initiatives
  • Educate patients and families about treatment options and recovery processes
  • Participate in medical student and General Surgery residency education
